Joining Toastmasters at 21 to overcome his fear of speaking in public, Tim Baker has come a long way since the early days of sweaty palms.
He is a disruptive thinker, willing to challenge conventional HR practices and come up with practical, innovative solutions to real-world problems.
Jamie is a Senior HR Leader with a proven track record of achievement across Generalist and Specialist HR roles in a number of large multinational organisations.
Jamie’s passion for people, the development and inclusion of his team and the success of the business is evident in the success he has achieved. He is collaborative and innovative and appropriately and constructively challenges the status quo.
With GM Holden closing its manufacturing operations in Australia, he has taken leadership in the closure of the industry with a strong focus around change management and employee engagement principles. The key foundation of this support has been around the development of a best practice Transition Centre to support all employees in the auto industry receiving the support, advice and training to help them transition into new work.
“I’m a 3, but she’s a 5; it was her turn this year.”
How many times have you overhead this type of conversation? Performance reviews are a tool, not a being, and yet on performance review day that is how most employees feel.
Studies have found that performance reviews are the second-most disliked work activity by managers after firing employees, and 86 percent of employers’ report being unhappy with their performance management systems. Other research has found that only 8 percent of HR executives thought their performance management systems made a significant contribution to employee performance.
Universal dissatisfaction with the traditional performance management process is causing more and more employers—like Accenture, GE, Microsoft, Abode, and Deliotte, to name a few—to very publicly retire their old performance management systems of rankings and ratings in favor of less formal and more infrequent performance conversations.

Swimming star Brooke Hanson OAM, an Olympic gold and silver medallist, remains one of Australia's most
Brooke made her debut for the Australian Swimming Team at the 1994 Commonwealth Games before going on to represent Australia over 25 times at major international championships.
In 2004 Brooke climbed her Everest, when, after missing two Olympic teams in 1996 and 2000, she won her Olympic gold and silver medals in Athens.
Brooke’s was one of the real success stories of 2004, hearing her name read out on the Olympic team after winning three gold and one silver medal in front of a packed hometown crowd at the Olympic Trials in her hometown, Sydney.
And she has not looked back since.
